New gripping details have emerged today Wednesday in a case involving six suspects connected to the gruesome murder of 24-year-old business protégé, Patel Kumar Kuntaj, who was gunned down in broad day light by an off-duty Police officer.
Kisoro Chief Magistrate’s court led by his Worship Kenneth Komakech today committed the suspects to Kabale High Court following the completion of case files on the suspects by Police.
Kuntaj was shot by Gumisiriza Elioda, a police officer in Kisoro municipality during a broad light assassination on the 27th of October 2022.
He was immediately rushed to St Francis hospital Mutolere where he was later pronounced dead.
Hatel Patel of Indian Origin, Gumisiriza Elioda, Ntiziyaremye Bernard alias Lampard,Nyabagabo Gard, Charles Nteziyaremye, Ntibakunze Godfrey aka Kafero today appeared before the Chief Magistrate who read to them counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Komakech said the evidence before the court is compelling enough for a trial to proceed in High Court of Kabale.
The evidence, according to Komakech including mission motorcycles, call voice notes, SMG rifle and its magazines along with several rounds of ammunition have been recovered, collected and secured for trial.
Court learnt today that the mastermind and orchestrator of the murder plot was Indian Hatel Patel, a rival businessman to Patel of Tulija enterprises.
State prosecutor Ainomugisha Christopher told the Court that Hatel Patel hired Ntibakunze Godfrey to kill Patel Kuntaj, promising large sums of money for getting the job done.
The two Indian nationals living and working in Kisoro district developed strong wrangles related to business.
Ntibakunze, having received some money and knowing that the kill job was real decided to subcontract the assassination job among his close network of criminals.
These included Nteziyaremye Charles who passed the job on to Nyabangabo Gard to Nteziyaremye Bernard to Uganda Police Constable Gumisiriza Elioda who accepted the ‘wet work‘ and unfortunately killed the wrong Indian.
Court further heard that Hatel Patel used to meet with four suspects at one of the hotels in Kisoro Municipality to plan how best to eliminate the competition.
During those meetings, the accomplices were treated to a show of cash and luxury from the Indian businessman who was determined to have the mission accomplished by hook or crook.
During the court hearing, State prosecutor, narrated that one failure attempt, through the use of a local herbalist only raised the awareness of Patel who sensed that his life was in danger.
Disgraced Police Constable Elioda Gumisiriza was advanced 6 Million Ugandan Shillings out of 20 Million Shillings promised to carry out the job as quickly as possible.
The high-profile case is one among many that is expected to be heard by Resident Judge during a special 40 day sitting in Kisoro, according to trusted sources.
