While appearing before the Resident Judge Hon. Samuel Emokor, Baseme was not given an opportunity to speak before the Court.
On the 7th of December 2018, while in Nyatete Trading Center, Chahi Parish in Nyakinama Sub County, Ibrahim Baseme aged 19 assaulted Barugahare Kosima 27 years which later resulted into his death.
Prosecution alleges that the accused fought near kwaratura Anthony’s bar where they had been drinking Alcohol.
According to eyewitnesses paraded before court, the two were separated and the accused left the scene immediately.
Kosima (now deceased) is said to have returned to the bar for a short time before he decided to return home.
Witnesses say the deceased was later discovered at around 11:50pm lying helplessly in a pool of blood caused by a deep cut on his head.
He was rushed to Kisoro Hospital by Anthony and Earnest for treatment and transferred to St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere.
The next morning, he was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where he died.
Resident Judge Hon. Samuel Emokor said since the convict has already spent four years, seven months and three days on remand, he will continue to serve his jail term for the next 10 years.
