Residents in Gitowa Ward in Bunagana Town Council have a reason to smile after Government officially handed over a 25, 000 liter rainwater harvesting tank that will reduce the number of trips made by Locals into the Democratic Republic of Congo to fetch water.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Sekandi Sengoba yesterday handed over the water tank valued at slightly over 28 Million Ugandan Shillings.
Residents in the area said it was routine for them to cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo to fetch water for domestic use.
They explained that they often had to walk very long distances to access the water and worse still, had to wait for livestock belonging to the Congolese to first drink water.
Sekandi, who has already commissioned and handed over several water harvesting tanks to Kisoro Communities this week, said the NRM Government is committed to accomplishing its Manifesto 2021-2026 which includes wealth creation, employment, Education and Health, Justice and Equity among others.
He noted that tarmacking for Kisoro- Mgahinga tourism road will soon start because several households affected by the major road project have already been compensated.
Innocent Kwizera, the Bunagana LCV district Councilor described Hajji Shafiq Sekandi as a leader who is committed to development because he takes interest to follow up Government projects.
Kwizera said the communities will require another water harvesting tank, through Government lobbying because the population has grown and demand for clean safe water is high.
Classroom block Commissioned.
A four-classroom block at Rwaramba Primary School in Kibande Village, Muramba Sub County, Kisoro district was also commissioned yesterday.
Muramba LCIII chairperson Nzabona Francis commended Government for the development in the area.
He however noted that piped water is still lacking in the area which Government needs to address to ensure a healthy and productive community.
