Thousands of Congolese fleeing fresh violence in the North Kivu province of Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have today entered Uganda through Bunagana border in Kisoro district.
The refugees who started their entry into the country as early as 1am last night claim they were fleeing heavy gun fire. The group responsible has not yet come out to take responsibility.
At Bunagana border, security personnel have been overwhelmed with the large numbers who cannot be evacuated to Nyakabande transit camp due to Covid-19 protocol.
Voice of Muhabura has learnt that the security team led by Kisoro Deputy Resident District commissioner Dan Ndikumwami held a close door emergency meeting to find a solution to the problem.
Business in Bunagana has since come to a standstill following the refugee influx.
Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is prone to Military insurgents who often force civilians to flee into Uganda seeking refuge.
