The Kisoro District FDC General Secretary has said the party remains strong, despite the internal wrangles and the political absence of Dr. Kiiza Besigye.
Besigye, one of the party founders will according to party sources not contest for the presidency in the 2021 elections, and the party is still in limbo about who to carry the blue flag. There is also worry that Kyadondo East MP Robet Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s People Power pressure group is sucking the party’s big wigs into its now launched National Unity Platform (NUP).
But Ruzaza Christopher, in an interview with Voice of Muhabura, explained that there is a number of potential FDC members who can lead the country. He said that it’s not compulsory for FDC to be represented in the next polls but noted that people like Betty Ochan Aol, Geoffrey Okanya among others have potential to lead Uganda.
Ruzaza however said that Dr. Kiiza Besigye has not yet officially declared not to run for the Presidential seat come 2021-2026. He said that they are waiting for a National delegate’s conference to confirm if he will not run for the coming polls.
Mr Ruzaza further urges FDC supporters in Kisoro to remain calm and focus on the party objectives of “liberating the country”. He added that FDC as a party is willing to work with people from different political platforms as long as they are willing to work for the common person.
Ruzaza, who recently declared intentions to run for the Kisoro LC5 Chairperson seat says that Uganda is a country that needs selfless leaders to solve problems which the NRM government has failed to address in the last 3 decades.
“The young generation needs an opportunity to take the mantle and lead this nation. But they must be selfless and service oriented.
