Arsenal have endured a nightmare start to the Premier League season, and are currently 15th in the table.
They’ve lost eight of their 14 games, winning just four.
Under-fire Mikel Arteta is expected to be backed in the January window, as Gunners chiefs are still confident in his ability to turn things around.
But they’ll have to be active in the window in order to strengthen the squad for the second-half of the campaign.
Mesut Ozil could find himself involved in the senior squad in the new year, having been ousted from the Premier League and Europa League squads.
Arsenal are crying out for some creativity, and are expected to focus on attacking signings in January.
Here’s Tuesday’s Arsenal transfer round-up.
Rob Holding in talks for new contract
Rob Holding has entered into talks over a new long-term contract at Arsenal, according to Football Insider.
The centre-back, who is currently under contract until 2023, has become a key member of Arsenal’s squad this season.
He’s played 11 times in the Premier League, and seems to be comfortable in the middle of a three-man central defensive unit for Arteta.
And the club’s decision-makers apparently want to reward him for his performances with a new contract.
Football Insider claims they want to give him a significantly long-term new deal.
Striker target available for discount
One of Arsenal’s reported transfer targets, Maxi Gomez, will apparently be available on the cheap in January.
The Valencia forward is apparently one of the players the La Liga side are willing to get rid of in January in order to balance the books.
Valencia are said to be struggling financially, having offloaded eight players in the past summer window.
But they are set to continue to sell players in order to raise funds after a catestrophic start to the season.
The Sun claims Valencia are willing to take a significant loss on his £125m release clause.
Arteta urged to sanction fire sale
Arteta has been urged to wield the axe and offload players who don’t fit the bill at the Emirates.
David Seaman explained that the under-fire manager needs time to be able to raise funds to buy players who will fit into his style of play.
The former goalkeeper said: “For me, he needs to stay and the club need to back him in getting the players he wants.
“At the moment, there are a few players at Arsenal that maybe need to leave to create funds to get better players.”
