Eden Mission executive director Kenneth Rwego has said Kisoro district is set to benefit from a state of the art health facility targeting pregnant mothers in the entire region.
Rwego, who heads an international faith based organization, made the revelation yesterday during a function to celebrate a successful campaign where 5000 women in Kisoro district benefited from free maternal health services in one month.
The function was also an opportunity to unveil plans to construct a modern health facility in Gisorora, Nyakabande that will offer specialized services to women.
Rwego says, if it was not for a dream he had as an eleven year old boy, while seated next to the bedside of his pregnant mother while at St. Francis Mutolere, Hospital, all this would not have been possible.
“I recall only being 11 years old and my mother was heavily pregnant. It was 3am in the morning and we were escorting her to Mutolere hospital. We didn’t have a car, there were no boda bodas at that time and it was raining, I didn’t know much about being pregnant but I could see she was in so much pain, I honestly thought she was going to die”, Rwego narrated
He notes that that experience inspired him to work hard to ensure his dream for safe motherhood in Kisoro is realized.
During the one month campaign, mama Kits were given out alongside other consultative services.
“It is also my dream that by 2023, all sub counties in the district have at least one ambulance to ease the burden of transporting a pregnant mother, by God’s grace”, Rwego noted
