The Electoral Commission has said voting counting at the end of the Bukimbiri County by-election will take place at Hope Mission facility in Rubuguri town council, Bukimbiri County, Kisoro district.
This was confirmed by the Kisoro district Returning officer, Nayebare Daniel who dismissed claims by some of the candidates that the tally centre was being taken to rural Kirundo Sub County in Bukimbiri.
Two of the candidates, FDC’s James Owebeyi and Asgario Turyagenda (Independent) accused the Electoral commission of planning to set up the tally centre in Kirundo, which is hard to reach, without electricity and very far.
Owebeyi, Icumu Rya Bukimbiri further raised concern about the deployment of security in some primary schools in Rubuguri town council.
He further questioned the presence of State House Vehicles patrolling the streets of Rubuguri. He called for fairness and transparency in the forth-coming elections.
Asgario Turyagenda also called on the Electoral Commission to move the tally centre to Rubuguri town council, which is the heart beat of Bukimbiri County.
According to Turyagenda, Rubuguri has access to roads, electricity and proper social amenities.
E.C representative Nayebare Daniel said the tally centre has been secured at Hope Mission facility.
He urged all candidates and the media to attend a pre- election meeting slated for 10th August, 2022 where all necessary updates will be made.
