A reduction in Covid-19 cases have been reported in Kisoro district since July begun as total infections stand at 609 cases and 18 local deaths.
According to the Kisoro district assistant officer in charge of disease surveillance Nick Muneza, some Covid-19 testing units have started registering zero numbers despite making relatively low tests as before.
Nick Muneza says that over 1658 people have been tested since 1st June of whom 609 positive cases have been confirmed, 129 recoveries and 18 deaths excluding 6 locals who died from outside Kisoro.
He adds that a massive decline has been registered in the current two weeks of July though it is unwise to declare that Kisoro is safe yet.
Muneza attributes the decline in the number of new covid-19 infections on the Lock-down that has less than 17 days to run.
He says that by 12th July, Covid-19 admissions stood at 31 patients of whom 8 are on oxygen support; 6 at Kisoro hospital while 2 at Mutolere hospital.
Meanwhile, Dusabe Annette the district assistant health officer in charge of maternal health and immunization says that 99% of the targeted groups have been successfully immunized.
She adds that the district will receive a third package of dozes by the end of July. This comes after the second package of 720 dozes got finished before vaccinating all people who received the first doze.
