Christians have been urged to reflect on their faith, strengthen family unity and renew their commitment to Christian values as they usher in the New Year 2026.
The Curate Priest of St. Peter’s Gisoro Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Nkwasiibwe Bruno, made the call while leading mass during the New Year’s prayers at the parish on Thursday.
“A good beginning marks a good ending. As we start this New Year, Christians must take time to evaluate their journey of faith, reflect on the past year and commit themselves anew to prayer and Christian values,” Rev. Fr. Nkwasiibwe said.
He encouraged believers to assess both their achievements and shortcomings from 2025, saying honest self-reflection helps individuals and families build a better future.
“Evaluating ourselves helps us correct our mistakes, strengthen what is good and walk into the new year with hope and responsibility,” he added.
The priest also prayed for peace and unity within families, noting that harmony at household level is essential for community development and national progress.
“When families are peaceful and united, they attract God’s blessings and become a strong foundation for development in society,” Rev. Fr. Nkwasiibwe said.
He further urged Christians to live in love, forgiveness and mutual support, calling on them to pray earnestly so that 2026 becomes a year of spiritual growth and positive transformation.
However, the cleric expressed concern over the growing lack of love and the increasing habit of alcoholism, which he said continues to negatively affect many families.
“Alcohol abuse and the absence of love in families are destroying homes and holding back moral and economic development. These are challenges we must confront together as Christians,” he warned.
He concluded by calling on believers to remain prayerful, united and committed to working together for peace and prosperity in the new year.
Remain thankful to God
While preaching on New Year’s Eve at Seseme Cathedral, Rev. Mugiraneza Innocent urged Christians to remain faithful and thankful to God for the year 2025.
He acknowledged that many believers may have entered 2025 with high expectations that were not fully realized, but encouraged them not to lose faith.
“We thank God for the gift of life and for enabling us to reach the end of the year safely. Even when our plans did not go as expected, God has still been faithful to us,” Rev. Mugiraneza said.
“God works through commitment and faithfulness. Sometimes He does more for us than we imagine, even when we do not see it immediately,” he noted.
Rev. Mugiraneza described worship as a powerful tool that helps Christians overcome life’s challenges and urged believers to make it a priority.
As Christians enter 2026, he advised them to plan their work diligently and walk in faith, trust and dedication to God.
“Let us enter the New Year with faith, hard work and total dependence on God,” he said.
