Police in Kisoro has arrested more than 60 people in a late night operation on Christmas day who were found in bars and clubs along Mutanda road in Kisoro Municipality.
The suspects who are still being detained at Kisoro Police Station are believed to have been part of merry makers despite the Curfew regulations and the known fact that all bars and clubs are still closed indefinitely.
Kisoro Deputy Resident District Commissioner Dan Ndikumwami confirmed the development.
Ndikumwami says he is pleased by the security who took charge of a highly volatile situation because COVID 19 is real and people from Kampala and other places are mixing and locking themselves up in bars and clubs.
According to Ndikumwami, one of the clubs on Mutanda road had a standoff with security for over 5 hours when revelers locked themselves inside the bar and refused police to access the premises.
By Press time, Voice of Muhabura learnt that the club owner and all its people had been arrested.
Security in Kisoro has vowed to carry out more operations for the remaining days till the New Year of 2022.
