Catholic Faithful in Kisoro District have been warned against sending money to unknown people using mobile money as part of their contribution towards funds being raised to expand the fountain of Our Lady of Kibeho in Nyaruguru district, Rwanda.
The comments come a day after Police in Kisoro says, they have registered a few cases of victims who have lost their hard-earned money to so- called nuns from Kibeho.
Community Liaison Officer with the Uganda Police Force, Boaz Arinaitwe said people who agree to support the cause by sending money via mobile money are being asked for between 100,000 to 500,000 by the fraudsters.
Police is currently tracking a mobile number 0787-159-807 and the public has been warned against receiving calls that are made by the same number.
The Chairperson of the Pilgrims of Kibeho in Kisoro Martin Hakizimana said all Christians interested to supporting the fundraising drive should bring their money in person and hand it to specific people and not use mobile money.
Hakizimana, who is also the Muramba Sub County LCV Councilor and Political Assistant to Bufumbira South MP Alex Niyonsaba said people are free to contribute whatever among they can afford as long as it is from their hearts.
