Bukimbiri United Boda Boda Operators (BUBO) have launched yet another new stage at Kabishwi, in Kirundo Sub County, Kisoro District in a bid to boost membership.
Kabishwi Boda Stage, located in Kabishwi Trading Center, Murambi Village becomes the 18th Stage under the management of BUBO.
BUBO, which has been in operation for over one year has since grown its membership to over 800 members, mostly operating in Bukimbiri Constituency.
The development comes following a split from Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators (KUBO) headed by its chairperson Robert Kalangala, due to what was referred to as ‘irreconcilable differences’.
BUBO Chairperson Mugabe Robert said the exponential growth being witnessed in BUBO is as a result of teamwork, transparency and the growth of their organization can no longer be stopped by anyone, especially KUBO members.
Mugabe said they are engaging legal experts to be able to take back their shares from KUBO especially on the prime piece of land in Kisoro Municipality which was bought by KUBO for its members.
Last year, KUBO leadership were forced to reverse a decision of constructing a hotel on the land they bought after they failed to provide accountability to the members.
These actions and several others resulted in a splinter group, now referred to as BUBO.
Kabishwi Boda Cyclists were oriented on how to behavior and ensure that their stage is not associated with crimes or extortion of clients.
The riders said the stage has come at a good time where people who use vehicles often get stuck in the way due to poor roads but boda bodas can easily navigate and ease transport demands.
The leadership of Kabishwi stage implored to work hand in hand with the BUBO leadership to ensure sanity among its members. They also decried the poor state of roads in the area, calling upon leaders to find solutions for the transport sector.
The Riders of Kabishwi urged Government through their honorable Member of Parliament Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu to keep pushing for improved road works in Bukimbiri.
Murambi Village LC1 Chairperson, Nteziyaremye Charles welcomed a boda boda stage in his village adding that the nearest boda boda stage was in Busanza Sub County.
He said the new stage is going to create some employment for the youth who have been idle adding that Government needs to recognize the potential for tourism and agriculture in the area by developing the roads.
