Politics should be a reserve for rallies, but not places of worship and burials, Bukimbiri County legislator has said.
“Stop politicking and seeking for votes from places of worship. Christians come here for prayers, why should you divert them to politics?” Kwizera emphasized.
Hon Eddie Kwizera wa-Gahungu made the remarks Sunday at a fundraising to roof Kashigye Catholic Church in Nyundo Sub County, Kisoro District, where he presided over as chief guest.
Kwizera suggests that politics is usually associated with insults, lies, and diversionary talk, which should not be tolerated in churches and mosques.
“Don’t tolerate politicians who divert you from prayers. When it’s a fundraising, let’s contribute money and talk about church projects at hand, not the dirt associated with politics. Time for politics will come and the one God will choose will go through.”
“I also want to emphasize that contesting against someone doesn’t make you enemies. Beyond politics, we are all human and we should stop the fights.” Kwizera advised.
According to Hon Kwizera, politicians abuse their status at functions when they impose political discussions at underserving functions such as burials.
He appealed to the clergy and the public to rebuke such speeches to sustain reverence for respective functions. He says leaders and politicians should craft speeches according to the events and stop diverting people.
“When we attend burials, some have come from very far even foreigners come. Why should you start politicking to foreigners, non-voters and the family that is mourning? Some will even ask the dead body in the coffin to vote them. People laugh at us as if there is no leadership.” Kwizera said.
Over Shillings 9 million was raised at the function. The legislator contributed Shs3 million and pledged to continue supporting the Christians’ efforts until the church is complete.
