Kisoro District Police Commander, SP Ben Niwamanya Kashumbusha has warned people against employing foreigners without registering them with local authorities.
Speaking to www.vomuhabura.com from his office at Kisoro Central Police Station this Monday, SP Niwamanya said that such behaviour risks compromising the security of the country.
He made the call following the gruesome murder of 6-year-old Irinatwe Victor, from Rukoro village in Nyakinama Sub County, which security has linked to human sacrifice.
The body of the deceased was on 4th March discovered in a bean plantation, after he had gone missing for 5 days.
Upon discovery, the body’s private parts were missing. The murder has been linked to two Rwandans, who worked as cattle-keepers in the neighbourhood.
According to SP Nuwamanya, the two suspects are still being held at Kisoro police as investigations continue.
“We managed to arrest two people who are Rwandans by origin. We still have them in our cells as investigations continue. However, we have no yet got other reports in connection to the murder, and we are open to receive any other information that can lead us to the real culprits behind the murder,” He said.
According to him, employers should report foreign laborers to local authorities to avoid compromising security.
In a related development, police is holding three suspects, while two others are admitted at Kisoro hospital in relation to a gang that has been terrorizing believers who hold prayers from Nyaruyaga hill in Kisoro municipality.
These were arrested last week after they attempted to rob a woman on her way to the prayer mountain. Luck ran out of their hand as the woman, whom the stabbed on the arm, made an alarm that attracted nearby residents.
The residents were able to apprehend two of the suspects, who were clobbered, before a mob attempted to burn them with petrol.
However, police responded in time and whisked them away to Kisoro hospital, where they remain admitted under police watch.
SP Nuwamanya calls upon the public to always assist authorities in identifying their hideouts.
“After their recovery, we shall arraign them in courts of law to make sure that these goons are swept out of our town. We call upon all the LC1 Chairpersons to come and we work to identify areas which are harbouring such goons since they hide in their areas,” SP Niwamanya said.
According to the 2024 Police Annual Crime Report, a total of 8,163 cases of robberies were reported to the police countrywide, compared to 7,772 cases reported in 2023. This indicates a 5% increase in this crime category.
