Quite a number of clubs in the DSTV Premiership are closely monitoring Uganda Hippos forward Derrick Kakooza and through his representatives, the youngster could anytime now join a team in the South African top tier division.
Kakooza is enjoying his time at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania where he is the leading goal scorer with five goals.
He scored a hat-trick as the Uganda U20 side demolished Tunisia 4-1 on Monday to reach the finals of the tournament during their first time of quest.
“Kakooza is a talented youngster who is doing very well at the U20 AFCON. There’s a lot of interest in the boy and we are talking to people (clubs in the PSL) about him. The boy is very good, and he can do well at any of the big clubs,” a certain source told Soccer Laduma.
Besides the three goals in one game against Tunisia in the semi-finals, the 18-year-old scored in the Hippos’ 2-0 and 2-1 wins against Mozambique and hosts Mauritania in the group stages.
And it is therefore his proficiency as a striker that is attracting clubs towards his signature.
The Police FC forward will definitely be amongst the players to watch and should carry his scoring boots if Uganda are to go all the way and claim the trophy.
Morley Byekwaso’s charges will play Ghana U-20 the three-time winners of the U20 AFCON in the final to be played on Saturday, March 6.
Ghana beat Gambia U20 in the other semi-final on Monday.
