The 1978 losing finalists will open the campaign versus Tunisia on December 23, face regional rivals Taifa Stars of Tanzania in the second game on December 27 and then finish the group matches with a big one against the Super Eagles on December 30.

Uganda Cranes head coach ‘Micho’ ranked amongst Africa’s top most paid national team head coaches.

Hopefully, they will manage to collect points enough to take them out of the group just like it happened in 2019, Egypt, the last time they did qualify for the tournament.

Below, we dig deep into the past meetings with each of the three opponents.

Uganda vs Tunisia H2H

  • Matches Played: 5
  • Matches Won: 0
  • Matches Drawn: 0
  • Matches Lost: 5
  • Goals For: 1
  • Goals Against: 16

In terms of the past, the Carthage Eagles have proved the toughest opponent for Uganda Cranes amongst nations faced on more than three occasions.

Uganda has never won or picked a point off Tunisia in the past five meetings losing all, conceding 16 goals and scoring just once.

Four of the meetings have happened in the Afcon – twice in the final tournament (1962, lost 3-0) and (1978, lost 3-1) while the other two were in the qualifiers for the 2000 tournament with Tunisia beating Uganda home (2-0) and away (6-0).

The most recent meeting was an international friendly that Uganda lost 2-0 as Cranes prepared for the 2017 Afcon in Gabon.

Uganda vs Tanzania H2H

  • Matches Played: 63
  • Matches Won: 34
  • Matches Drawn: 16
  • Matches Lost: 13
  • Goals For: 96
  • Goals Against: 57

One of Uganda’s most frequent opponents in history with 63 meetings between the two nations – most coming in the Cecafa cup and others international friendlies.

There has been no meeting at the Afcon final tournament but over a dozen matches have happened between the two nations in the qualifiers for the biggest national tournament on the continent.

Uganda has won 5 Afcon qualifiers, lost 4 and drew 3 times versus the Taifa Stars which calls for close contest in Morocco.

Overall, Uganda has won 34, lost only 13 and drew the rest of the 63 meetings.

Uganda vs Nigeria H2H

  • Matches Played: 8
  • Matches Won: 4
  • Matches Drawn: 2
  • Matches Lost: 2
  • Goals For: 6
  • Goals Against: 5

Shockingly, Uganda has a better head-to-head record against soccer power house Nigeria in the past eight meetings with five of them Afcon matches including the 1978 semi-final in Ghana which The Cranes won 2-1.

The Cranes also won the most recent Afcon qualifiers meeting 2-1 in 2007 courtesy of penalties from David Obua and Ibra Sekagya.

The most memorable clash between the two teams happened in 1993 at Nakivubo War Memorial stadium that ended in a draw after a penalty miss by Adam Ssemugabi.
