The residents of Matinza trading center in Rwingwe Parish, Nyakabande Sub County in Kisoro District have threatened to stage a peaceful demonstration following the unfulfilled promises by Government to fix a flooded stretch of the Kisoro-Rubuguri road.

A stretch of over 100 meters at Gatesani area, in Matinza has for months faced water logging, making movement of people and traffic almost impossible, and nearby home being submerged with water.

When the residents threatened to demonstrate two weeks ago, the Kisoro LC5 Chairperson Abel Bizimana and Bufumbira East MP, Dr James Nsaba Buturo contacted the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Kabale Station, which sent a contractor to work on the road.

A pledge was made that works would be complete within one week.

However, a week after, residents’ claim the problem has persisted, with little work done and the road remains submerged by water.

According to the residents, the current situation only indicates that leaders have neglected them. They appealed to the area MP and LC5 Chairperson to ensure that the problem is addressed soon before they stage a demonstration.

When asked, the Nyakabande LC5 Councilor, Godfrey Maniraguha Rukara, again threatened to organize a fresh demonstration to express their frustration.
