Lions Club Woos University Students through Conservation

Sison Mugisha, the Lions Club President of Kisoro said the club is seeking to incorporate the Leo’s Club that will have the youth from Kisoro and Mbarara participate in a range of activities.

Lions Club of Kisoro in partnership with Lions Club of Mbarara have broaden their reach by involving University Students at Metropolitan International University Main Campus in Kisoro District in tree planting activities.

63 volunteers from MIU campus participated in planting over 50 fruit trees planted around the campus premises.

Sison Mugisha, the Lions Club President of Kisoro said the club is seeking to incorporate the Leo’s Club that will have the youth from Kisoro and Mbarara participate in a range of activities.

Mugisha said planting fruit trees within the campus premises will serve two keys purposes which include providing necessary shade to relax and fruit to eat during the ripening season.

The fruit trees that were planted include Paw Paw, Mangoes and Oranges.

What is a Leo Club?

Leo Club members must be between the ages of 12 and 30.

Leo club members are addressed as LEOS and can conduct various projects in the fields of health care, education, literacy, and self-development.

Mugisha explained that conservation and health are among the key activities the Lions Club of Kisoro is interested in promoting.

He noted that physical exercises like walking and hiking will be encouraged as well as conserving the environment.

Metropolitan International Guild President Samuel Tusiime said the University welcomes the idea of having a Leo club which will be a great platform to network with established members of the community.

He noted that such activities help the youth value their country and their fellow countrymen.
