Busanza Sub County: URA to buy Land for Offices and Parking yard at Mupaka Border

The team that was led by the Commissioner Customs Department of Field Services Asadu Kisitu Kigozi says they need to acquire at least two acres of land that will be used to house a modern Customs offices and a parking yard.

A team of senior managers at Uganda Revenue Authority (Customs) earlier this week paid a site visit to Mupaka border in Busanza Sub county, Kisoro district ahead of official commissioning of the border point with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team that, largely travelled clandestinely into the district, first visited the border with Bunagana where a closed door meeting was held for several hours, before moving on to Mupaka town council for a meet and greet session at Mupaka Customs office.

Busanza Customs in charge David Derrick Murevi explained that the border at Mupaka in Busanza Sub County will benefit Kisoro district and Uganda because of its close proximity to Goma in the Democratic republic of Congo.

He says residents whose property will be destroyed have been approached and negotiations went on smoothly, as many of them have already agreed to the terms.

Mupaka border will become the third official border in Kisoro district including Kyanika border with Rwanda and Bunagana with Democratic republic of Congo.

Mupaka town council Mayor Emmanuel Ndekezi said it is such a great opportunity for the people of Busanza who will benefit from the improved international trade along Mupaka border.

Mupaka town council LCV councilor John Bosco Musabyimana called on the public to position themselves in terms of business so that they can increase household incomes by constructing hotels and lodges targeting long distance truck drivers from DR. Congo and Uganda.

The Bufumbira North Member of Parliament Hon. John Kamala Nizeyimana said such developments at Mupaka border will lead to the construction of a tarmac road by Government.

Hon. Kamala said the Government of Uganda has always constructed tarmac roads connecting border points with neighboring Countries.

He noted that development in the district is going to increase as Mupaka border becomes fully functional while the roads into the Democratic republic of Congo make head way, the Industrial park in Bunagana will also increase revenue collection for the district and the entire country.
