Central Division LCIII chairperson Ramadhan Ndikuyeze said buyers and sellers in Gatimba market have refused to respect the existing laws aimed at safe guarding the lives of traders and their property.

Ndikuyeze noted that as a Municipality, hoping to become a tourism city one day, tougher actions need to be taken to secure the beauty of the town.

“Most of the food items that were confiscated belonged to people who were buying and selling food items from outside the market, besides the busy road. Others placed their merchandise on the flowers with any thought put to the efforts of planting them in order to beautify Kisoro town”, Ndikuyeze explained

The traders who spoke to Voice of Muhabura decried the actions by the Municipal authorities who never gave them clear warnings.

Kisoro Municipality leadership has been engaged in running battles with roadside fruit vendors who have refused to enter the market claiming the space is very limited and taxes imposed are often unreasonable.
