Rwego says, if it was not for a dream he had as an eleven year old boy, while seated next to the bedside of his pregnant mother while at St. Francis Mutolere, Hospital, all this would not have been possible.

Eden Mission executive director Kenneth Rwego has said Kisoro district is set to benefit from a state of the art health facility targeting pregnant mothers in the entire region.

Rwego, who heads an international faith based organization, made the revelation yesterday during a function to celebrate a successful campaign where 5000 women in Kisoro district benefited from free maternal health services in one month.

The function was also an opportunity to unveil plans to construct a modern health facility in Gisorora, Nyakabande that will offer specialized services to women.

Rwego says, if it was not for a dream he had as an eleven year old boy, while seated next to the bedside of his pregnant mother while at St. Francis Mutolere, Hospital, all this would not have been possible.

“I recall only being 11 years old and my mother was heavily pregnant. It was 3am in the morning and we were escorting her to Mutolere hospital. We didn’t have a car, there were no boda bodas at that time and it was raining, I didn’t know much about being pregnant but I could see she was in so much pain, I honestly thought she was going to die”, Rwego narrated

He notes that that experience inspired him to work hard to ensure his dream for safe motherhood in Kisoro is realized.

During the one month campaign, mama Kits were given out alongside other consultative services.

“It is also my dream that by 2023, all sub counties in the district have at least one ambulance to ease the burden of transporting a pregnant mother, by God’s grace”, Rwego noted

What is Eden Mission?

Eden Mission seeks to promote healthy and God fearing families while providing spiritual, social, physical and economic support. It also trains economic empowerment across all religious and cultural denominations in the world.

He said that the organization has also trained different denominations of economic empowerment and positive parenting.

The Kisoro district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Elizabeth Rita Byiringyiro said God has not forgotten the people of Kisoro.

She noted that Organizations like Eden Mission and another that recently set up shop in Nyakabande Sub County means that the people are going to be greatly empowered.

“We still have people who do not know a lot about themselves especially women therefore if Eden Mission can continue doing good work, our people are going to be empowered in knowledge and this will lead to be living and wellness, Byiringyiro said.

Some of the Beneficiaries who attended the ceremony

The Kisoro district Deputy Resident District Commissioner who doubled as the guest of honor Dan Ndikumwami said Kisoro is truly blessed to have organizations that are willing to carry the cost of such necessities like mama kits that are often a huge burden to a caring Government that simply cannot afford.

Ndikumwami noted that Eden Mission having a faith based background, all of good work can be expected from them in the time they expect to operate in Kisoro district

Several Beneficiaries who spoke to Voice of Muhabura said they were scanned, blood samples tests and were given mama kits, all at no cost. They also thanked Eden Mission for the good work.
