Conservationists have urged the public and other stakeholders to join efforts to protect the environment for future generations.
The call was made during an interschool wildlife quiz competition between Rushaga Community Primary School and Mukibugu Primary School, held at Voice of Muhabura during the Kids Show programme hosted by Elizabeth Mbarushimana.
Rushaga Community Primary School emerged victorious with three points, beating Mukibugu Primary School, which scored 1.5 points.
Francis Tugumisirize, the Children’s Coordinator for Sustainable Conservation at the Gorilla Organization, said the initiative aims to educate children and the public about environmental conservation while promoting tourism in Kisoro District.
The Gorilla Organization is a non-governmental organisation that works with schools and communities around Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks to promote conservation awareness.
Teachers who assessed the competition expressed concern over climate change and called on stakeholders to take an active role in protecting the environment, emphasizing that conservation is a shared responsibility.
Participants thanked the Gorilla Organization for its efforts to promote environmental conservation, noting that national parks have contributed significantly to the development of surrounding communities.
They urged the public to support conservation initiatives to protect wildlife and natural resources for future generations.
