Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Ndyana Richard is seeking a special meeting with President Yoweri Museveni to expose what he describes as corruption surrounding the stalled Kisoro-Mgahinga road project.
Ndyana says he is dissatisfied with the reported 16-billion-shilling payment to the contractor as startup capital, yet construction works on the road have since stalled.
The Kisoro-Mgahinga road is part of the 112-billion-shilling Kabale–Lake Bunyonyi and Kisoro–Mgahinga Road Upgrade Project, which was commissioned in June 2025.
Ndyana says the continued delay in completing the road has greatly affected tourism in Kisoro, particularly access to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
He made the remarks following a high-level meeting convened by Finance Minister Hon. Henry Musasizi on Friday, August 7, 2026, to review the progress of the Kabale–Lake Bunyonyi and Kisoro–Mgahinga road project, identify the causes of delays and agree on measures to resume construction.
The meeting brought together representatives from the African Development Bank, Kigezi Members of Parliament, district chairpersons, mayors, ministers and technical officials from the Ministries of Finance and Works and Transport, among other stakeholders.
However, Ndyana questioned why Kisoro leaders were not invited to the meeting, asking whether Kisoro is no longer considered part of the Kigezi region.
He says he wants a special meeting with President Museveni to present what he describes as evidence of corruption surrounding the project and seek government intervention to ensure construction of the Kisoro-Mgahinga road resumes.
