The accident occurred in the early hours of April 30, 2026, at around 12:50 AM at Mutolere along the Mutolere Hospital road. It involved two motorcycles — a red Bajaj Boxer (registration number UMA 623HL) and a blue Yamaha YBR (registration number UDY 197D).

According to preliminary police findings, Hakizimana, who was riding the Yamaha motorcycle from Kisoro Town towards Mutolere Hospital, collided head-on with the Bajaj Boxer being ridden by the deceased.

Traffic police officers visited and documented the scene. The injured victim was taken to Mutolere Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was conveyed to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Both motorcycles involved in the crash have been impounded at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

In a related incident, police also reported a hit-and-run accident involving an unidentified male adult pedestrian.

The incident is believed to have occurred on the same date at an unknown time at Shozi Village along the Kabale–Kisoro highway.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary.

Police are appealing to members of the public with missing relatives to visit the facility for identification and burial arrangements.

Police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed both incidents and urged road users to exercise caution to prevent further loss of life.
