It is alleged that the rider was traveling from Rukungiri Town towards Kihihi while carrying milk in cans placed on top and on the sides of the motorcycle, along with a jerrycan.

He reportedly hit the child, who was walking along the roadside with her mother on the left shoulder of the road.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Bikurungu Town for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers, led by the District Traffic Officer ASP Sabiti Patrick, visited and documented the scene before clearing it.

The body was taken to Bikurungu Health Centre III pending a postmortem examination.

The motorcycle has been impounded and is parked at the police yard pending inspection, while the rider is currently in police custody.

ASP Elly Maate kigezi region police spokesperson attributed the accident to reckless riding, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
