73 year old in Kisoro dies after consuming too much Alcohol

Police in Kisoro has advised communities in Kisoro district to desist from over consumption of Alcohol if they are to have productive lives.

The call was made by the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate who said Police is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 73-year-old man who died yesterday as a result of Alcohol abuse.

The deceased who has been identified as Jackson Mukungu was a resident of Buhayo village Mbuga parish Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro district.

It’s alleged that on 28th of May 2023, Mukungu Jackson (now deceased) spent the whole day drinking Mkomboti and Waragi together with his son in kiseke trading Center.

Mukungu knew better and decided to buy some pork. He informed his son that he was going home to prepare some food for himself.

Tragically, Mukungu went back to the trading center without preparing the pork and continued drinking Waragi at the same trading center.

The son of the deceased, Habimana Vincent said he received information that his father was discovered dead with his body lying in the middle of the road in Bugwene village.

The body was taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for Postmortem and later handed over to the family for burial.

According to the 2023 report released by the World Health Organization, Uganda tops Africa in alcohol consumption.

The report states that Men consume more than women, with an average of 19.93 liters of pure alcohol annually compared to 4.88 liters for women.
