Kisoro – At least 30 foreigners have been arrested in Kisoro town. Those arrested are both Congolese and Rwandan nationals who were this evening aboard a Jaguar bus coming from Kampala.
These were arrested by police officers and taken to community police post near Busega stage to record their particulars.
Police sources say that they were arrested after a tipoff from security personnel at Kanaba checkpoint. However, some of them jumped on waiting boda bodas and managed to escape.
The sources add that the foreigners were arrested for questioning on how they entered the country, yet Uganda’s borders have been closed since March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is believed that some of them are traders, while others are refugees who usually move from camps to DRC and back.
No official statement has been released by police.
