Police in Kisoro has confirmed the untimely death of a 28-year-old male by the names of Stephen Munyantwari, a resident of Kagezi Village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub County, Kisoro district.
Kigezi region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said the deceased was shot in the left leg by a Police officer attached to a community Police post in Kisoro town identified as Twijukye Ronald.
It is alleged that on the night of 23rd of January 2023 at around 8:30pm at Baby Coach Bus terminal near Africano’s Shop, Police officer Ronald Twijukye received information of an unknown person threatening to cut people with a panga.
The officer responded and indeed found one Stephen Munyantwari, armed with a panga.
Upon seeing the officer armed with an AK47, the victim moved towards him, threatening to cut him.
It is at this point that officer Twijukye ordered the victim to put the panga down but when he refused to comply with the order, the violent victim was shot in the leg, disabling him and saving the general population at large.
The victim was later taken to Kisoro hospital where he eventually died as a result of the gunshot wound.
