Security in Mubende district are hunting for unknown assailants who murdered a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier and took away his firearm.
The deceased is Corporal Godfrey Turyaheebwa who was attached to the Mubende Military Rehabilitation Center.
Turyaheebwa breathed his last at Mubende Regional Referral hospital on Wednesday night where he was rushed after being attacked the previous day.
Mary Nyakwera Baguma, the Mubende Resident District Commissioner-RDC, also the District Security Committee Chairperson, says the deceased was attacked by unknown assailants inside the barracks.
She expressed dismay over the death of the soldier and theft of his firearm.
Kibuuka Amooti, the Mubende District LC 5 Chairperson, says the deceased was hit with a blunt object before his gun was stolen.
He asked the community to remain vigilant and provide relevant information to security authorities that will lead to the arrest of the assailants.
