The Uganda People’s defense Forces (UPDF) in close collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) today achieved a momentous step towards delivering security and stability in the highly volatile region, after successfully launching the opening of Security roads in North Kivu, Eastern DRC.
The development comes following an offensive by the UPDF deep into the Eastern DRC against rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) who are accused of the twin bombings in Kampala last month.
Today, social media photos reveal Mountain Division Commander Maj. General Kayanja Muhanga in the company of Congolese Col. Gbiagolo opening up Security roads in North Kivu, Eastern DRC.
In the photos, the soldiers look calm and relaxed and in no real threat of attack from opposing forces.
Re-opening of the roads, according to Security experts, could be the right signal that road construction into the vast and mineral rich country by Dott Services Company can commence.
