Uganda has registered 16 more Covid-19 cases, bringing to 1,313 the number of confirmed cases in the country.
A statement by the Health Ministry, says the 16 cases were part of the 2,250 samples tested yesterday.
According to the statement, 12 of the cases were from community alerts, 2 from contacts of previously confirmed cases and the other is a truck driver who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border.
The remaining case is a returnee from Kenya who was under quarantine at the time of test. Cumulatively Uganda has got 1,138 recoveries so far.
Meanwhile, scientists have attributed the Covid-19 deaths in the country to increasing community infections. Dr Bruce Kirenga, the director of Makerere University Lung Institute says the intensity of exposure to the virus is very high with community cases, whose source of origin and when they got infected is unknown.
He said previously, the cases would be detected and treated early but since the partial reopening of the lockdown, community infections are hard to be detected early and treated in time.
