The club’s decision comes just a day after the Venoms were pitted against Police FC in one of the two semi finals after the draws were conducted at FUFA House in Mengo on Monday morning.

Upon receiving FUFA’s communication on the planned resumption and completion of the competetion between 19th and 31 August 2021, Vipers showed no interest in the development.

Simon Peter Njuba, the club CEO said: “You will recall that when Government declared a National lockdown due to the spread of Covid-19.

The Federation subsequently stopped the league and declared meriting winners in accordance with the league Rules and Regulations.”

“Following these events Vipers Sports Club sent the players off season till 24th August, 2021 when training is expected to resume,” Njuba added.

“Assembling a semifinal competetion team in one week for players that have been laid off for 62 days since 6th June with some players staying outside Uganda, playing may be difficult within the slated period,” the Vipers CEO argued.

He further noted that testing these (Vipers’) players for Covid-19 and other related staff who have been in different locations call for a minimum of two weeks as required by the Ministry of Health.

“Considering the safety of players and other stakeholders, Vipers will only be ready to play beginning 30th August 2021,” Njuba affirmed.

The four-time league champions also feel the continuation of the Stanbic Uganda Cup is irrelevant and hardly makes sense given that Uganda’s official representative in the CAF Confederation Cup has already been selected.

The Uganda Cup winner has previously earned a ticket to the Confederations Cup.

But with the unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases and nationwide lockdown between June and July, FUFA chose to award that ticket to URA who finished second in the league.

FUFA is yet to issue out any official statement regarding the same, as vomuhabura tried reaching Aisha Nalule, the federation’s competitions director but she could not talk as she was in another important FUFA meeting with UPL club chairmen.
