The search for a new head coach at Mbarara city FC has heated up with three names already cited in contention for the vacant position after former coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi departing in June for Arua Hill SC.
Strong reports have linked Mbabazi’s assistant at Mbarara, Sadiq Sempigi, as the odds-on favourite to take over as the hierarchy believe he understands the team better than any other on the list.
Reports also indicate that former Vipers SC head coach Edward Golola has also been contacted. Golola is one of the most highly rated coaches on Ugandan soil especially with nurturing youngsters into superstars.
Former Bul Bidco FC head coach Peter Onen is also in line for the job, but it is also reported that he could as well take on the assistant role given the opportunity.
The CAF ‘A’ licence holder is known for his experience of working with youngsters, something he exhibited during his time with the Uganda U-17, which he guided to the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania.
Sources close to the Ankole outfit have as well linked a yet-to-be-identified African coach to the job, but this could be far-fetched given the financial conditions of the local clubs.
However, announcing a new coach will have to wait longer as Mbarara still awaits compensation for Mbabazi from Arua Hill as the gaffer still had a running contract at the time of his departure.
Arua Hill will be saved any compensation burden if Mbarara makes any announcements for a replacement.
