A section of residents from kibande village, southern Division Kisoro municipality on Monday 12th July stormed the RDC’s office complaining on their chairman LC1 Mr. sezibera Richard saying that he did register vulnerable people for Covid 19 relief funds in the right way.
Residents say the chairperson did not register them yet they are among the targeted.
Residents claim that the village chairperson registered close friends who didn’t even qualify to be registered.
However Sezibera Richard the LC1 chairperson of Kibande denied all the claims being hurled to him.
The RDC retired Captain Peter Mugisha directed them to the Kisoro municipal town clerk who was in charge of registering the groups that the government announced that they will be supported with 100,000 shillings.
The Kisoro municipal town clerk Sharifa Nakintu who attended to the residents said that the people who fall in the required category will be considered.
Birungi Front the senior community development officer at the municipality said that they have registered over 1560.Kisoro Municipality was required to submit 1560 beneficiaries.
Mr. Front said that people in villages where they grow food and they do not fall in the targeted groups should not register to avoid being embarrassed if they fail to get mobile money message.
Meanwhile 23 people from kibande village and people who were working at Ubumwe bus coaches were registered today.
Distribution of COVID-19 relief funds launched:
Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on Thursday launched the distribution of COVID-19 relief funds to vulnerable citizens as the country remains under lock down in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
Nabbanja said the money will be sent to beneficiaries through mobile money services and each individual was expected to receive about 100,000 shillings.
Earlier, government said it is targeting at least 250,553 beneficiaries who earn on a daily basis but are currently staying home due to the lock down.
The kisoro municipal CDO Birungi Front said that some beneficiaries have so far started receiving the money but added that it is hard to know the people who got until the ministry of Gender, labour and social development print out all the names of beneficiaries.
