The territorial police in Kisoro District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 62-year-old Emmanuel Nzabara, a taxi driver and resident of Bunagana Town Council.
Nzabara, who is reported to have had two wives, had ongoing domestic disputes with one of them, identified as Vasta Nyamagyere. According to police, the conflict escalated on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after Nzabara allegedly rented out a small house (kiosk) without informing Nyamagyere. In protest, she reportedly locked the kiosk with a padlock, sparking tensions in the family.
On Friday, August 8, 2025, Nzabara’s son, Innocent Maniragaba, traveled from Kampala and confronted his father over the matter. The confrontation allegedly turned violent while the two were inside Nyamagyere’s house, during which Nzabara sustained head injuries. He was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at around 3:00 a.m.
Police were notified, and the case was registered at Bunagana Police Station. The crime scene was visited, documented, and statements were taken from witnesses. A postmortem examination was conducted at Mutolere Hospital before the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
Two suspects—Nyamagyere, 55, and Maniragaba—have been arrested to assist with investigations.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate cautioned the public against resolving disputes through unlawful means.
“As long as people think they can settle grievances by taking the law into their own hands, they will face problems and risk becoming victims of circumstances,” he said.
