Kamwokya – The National Unity Platform (NUP) is set to hold a two-day retreat to discuss party matters as well as the race for Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
The party spokesperson Joel Senyonyi said that the retreat was supposed to take place last week but was postponed following the death of the Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
While addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kamwokya, Senyonyi stated that they have resolved to have their retreat this Friday and Saturday.
With over 60 MPs-elect, NUP will be the leading opposition party in the 11th Parliament which starts work next month.
Commenting about the government’s proposal for new taxes and increasing some existing ones, Senyonyi urged the government to first present the accountability of the taxes collected from Ugandans.
President Museveni is today, Thursday expected to officially open the retreat for the newly elected ruling NRM party MPs at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.
According to the party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, Museveni, who is also the NRM chairman, will on Thursday morning address the party legislators.
