Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu has been sworn in after taking his oath of allegiance at Parliament.
Mr. Kwizera and Derrick Orone (Gogonyo County, Pallisa district) both NRM, were sworn in at a sitting of the House chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa on Wednesday, 17 August 2022.
The Court of Appeal in June 2022 nullified the election of Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu and declared the Bukimbiri County parliamentary seat vacant following an application filed by James Owebeyi indicating that the 2021 election was manipulated.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa welcomed the legislators back and asked them to be cordial and willing to work with everyone.
“Learn to let go of the past; bury the hatchets and be ready to work together with even those who may have led to your by-elections,” he added.
Kisoro NRM Vice chairperson Ramadhan Ndikuyeze commended Parliament’s expedience in bringing the swearing-in forward.
Ndikuyeze said a lot of time has been wasted and Hon. Kwizera needs to get back to work to ensure that services reach the people of Bukimbiri.
Ndikuyeze advised the MPs in Kisoro who openly defied the party stand to support Mr. Kwizera to find a way to reconcile their differences and work together for the betterment of Kisoro district.
Mr. Kwizera, has commented in several social media groups encouraging all people to come together and unite for a common development agenda for Bukimbiri Constituency.
Mr. Kwizera further says detractors need not be forgotten and should not be called enemies because they will appreciate from developments and achievements made by the NRM party in the area.
Kisoro MPs Speak out
Kisoro Municipality MP Paul Kwizera Buchana says Eddie must remember that every cloud has its silver lining and that Mr. Kwizera should be mindful of his limitations moving forward.
“I will work with him where it is applicable however, what happened in Bukimbiri, was not an election but an appointment, and the people know this too”, Buchana said
Bufumbira East MP Hon. Dr. James Nsaba Buturo says he is prepared to work with Mr. Kwizera adding that he should now strive to unite the people of Bukimbiri.
Dr. Nsaba Buturo says his reservations before, during and after the by-election in Bukimbiri still stand however if the people have decided that he leads them for the next four years, so be it.
Bufumbira North MP John Kamala declined to comment on the matter of swearing-in but insisted that the remaining four years should be to reconcile the aggrieved people of Bukimbiri County.
