Alexandre Lacazette put himself in the record books with his first-half goal in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
The Frenchman was on hand to turn home from close range with just eight minutes played after Willian’s effort was parried by goalkeeper Marek Rodak.
In doing so, Lacazette became the first player in Premier League history to score on the opening day of the season in two separate campaigns.
The 29-year-old opened his club’s account back in 2017-18, when he headed home the first goal in a 4-3 win over Leicester.
And he made a similarly positive start this season, linking up promisingly with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and new signing Willian at Craven Cottage.
Aston Villa agree deal to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Martinez
Emiliano Martinez is set to hold talks with Aston Villa after Arsenal accepted a £20m offer for the goalkeeper .
The Argentine was due to hold a medical on Saturday and could start in Villa’s first game of the season against Sheffield United next week.
Martinez, despite his impressive form towards the end of last season, was left out of the squad for Arsenal’s trip to Fulham, with Bernd Leno reinstated as Mikel Arteta’s first choice.
