Kisoro Zip line excites, offers Alternative entertainment options.
By Alex Gahima
Picture yourself gliding through the air, above the waters of Lake Mutanda, like a bird, with nothing to hold you back except the fear of letting go.
Zip lining, for those who haven’t had the experience is a thrilling outdoor activity that is generally safe, totally liberating and lots of fun.
A Zip line can be best described as a transportation system or piece of equipment consisting of a cable stretched between points of different elevations. All one needs is a pulley, a harness, a pair of outdoor gloves and you are good to go.
Lake Mutanda Zip line, the first of its kind in Kisoro district has managed to capture the hearts and minds of people by offering them a new experience that requires bravery and willingness to try something new.
Owner and budding entrepreneur Andrew Iradukunda says the idea of bringing a Zip line to Kisoro, particularly Lake Mutanda is because the activity alone has potential to boast local tourism as well as help raise funds to build a home for vulnerable elderly persons in the community.
“Zip lining over a lake is a unique and interesting experience. People have an opportunity to experience something life changing in a safe and protected environment”, Iradukunda explains
Iradukunda notes that Lake Mutanda was the best choice to put the Zip line because its waters are bilharzia free and often times, people go there to swim while others simply visit to experience nature.
With $6 dollars (20,000 Ugandan shillings), you have an opportunity to Zip line across a 200 meter cable not once but twice.
“Lake Mutanda Zip line offers its clients a complimentary video and photos of your experience which is meant to serve as a remembrance of your time at the lake, Iradukunda noted
He explains that the Kisoro corporate class has really embraced the fun activity adding that people including adults and children from all walks of life are welcome.
Iradukunda also noted that people travel from other places outside Kisoro to enjoy affordable Ziplining on Lake Mutanda.
Clients Speak out
Brendah Atuheire, a business woman says it was her first time to zip line.
“I was really afraid at first but our instructor was very patient and professional. By the time I let go and was flying through the air, all my fear disappeared”, Atuheire explained.
Alice Iradukunda, a banker says she has zip lined before on Lake Bunyonyi but she was so eager to try a zip line in her home area.
“It is really fun and I would encourage everyone to try it at least once in their life. The feeling of leaving the ground and flying through the air is magical”, Alice exclaims
Downside
Andrew Iradukunda says he has not experienced many challenges.
“Some people, especially locals complain of the pricing saying it is too high however, I am required to replace worn out gloves and ensure that the cable is perfectly secure”, Iradukunda explains
As an observation on my part, (the writer of the story) I was slightly disturbed by the positioning of the climbing steps onto the platform. They require one to be very careful and have some level of physical fitness.
“I agree, the stairs are a bit narrow but we have plans to improve them, also we intend to raise the cable higher so that people can fully enjoy the experience”, Iradukunda revealed
