A mother of a seven-year-old girl from Chahi Sub-county in Kisoro District, south western Uganda is appealing for financial support to enable her daughter travel to India for specialized heart treatment.
The child, identified as Edvine Musanabera, has been battling a serious heart condition. She is the daughter of Lydia Munezero and Benon Sebusanani, residents of Rwankoni Village, Nyakabingo Parish in Chahi Sub-county, Bufumbira South Constituency.
Speaking to reporter, Edvine’s mother, Lydia Munezero, said the child was born prematurely in 2019 at Kisoro Hospital and was later referred to Potter’s Village Children’s Crisis Centre for further medical care. However, her condition continued to worsen, prompting another referral to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Munezero explained that doctors later advised that the child requires advanced treatment in India, which the family cannot afford. Initially, they were required to raise about 20 million shillings for the trip and treatment, but they have failed to mobilize the funds.
She added that the family has already sold most of their property to cater for medical expenses at Mulago Hospital, exhausting their financial resources.
She said “the child is ever crying and rarely eats due to pain and am now unable to cater for her”.
Munezero is now appealing to well-wishers, organizations, and the general public to support her daughter’s treatment, noting that the family is overwhelmed and also struggling to meet basic needs, including school fees for their other children.
