The Kisoro District preliminary football competitions for secondary schools have kicked off today with girls’ matches, attracting the participation of 28 teams.
The Kisoro District Chairperson for Sports, Steven Hafasha, revealed this in a brief interview with our reporter ahead of the tournament’s start.
Hafasha said the boys’ matches will begin on Wednesday, adding that the competitions will run for five days, with the finals expected to be played on Sunday.
The matches will be hosted at several playgrounds across the district, including Shaza Playground, Nyakabande Technical Playground, Nyakabande Refugee Camp Playground, Mashaka Playground, and Rubuguri Playground.
Hafasha explained that Shaza Playground was selected to host the girls’ matches after organizers faced a shortage of convenient playgrounds to accommodate all fixtures.
He also urged teachers and headteachers of the participating schools to conduct routine roll calls to ensure the safety of their students during the competitions, noting that this will help prevent cases of indiscipline.
Hafasha added that police officers are being deployed at every playground hosting matches to ensure security throughout the tournament.
