The Muslim community in Kisoro District is bustling with excitement as preparations reach their peak for the historic inauguration of Sheikh Ali Mwesigye as the District Khadi, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Kisoro Hill Muslim Primary School.
Sheikh Mwesigye was appointed acting District Khadi in 2022 by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, following the death of the late Sheikh Asuman Fadhil Ngenda, who previously served in an acting capacity.
Before his appointment, Sheikh Mwesigye was the Imam of Bufumbira County. During the same announcement, Sheikh Mubaje also appointed Sheikh Shafi Bakore as Mwesigye’s deputy.
When our reporter visited the main mosque and the event venue on Friday afternoon, final touches were being made. Tents were being erected, chairs arranged, and school pupils were seen rehearsing songs and poems in anticipation of the big day.
Abdu Kyomukama, the Chairperson of the Kisoro Muslim Council and head of the organizing committee, expressed confidence that the event will be a great success.
“We are ready to welcome over 1,500 guests for this historic occasion,” Kyomukama said.
“We have ensured that food and drinks will be provided for everyone so that all our visitors become part of this important day.”
He emphasized that the function, which will start at 8:00 a.m. and end around 3:00 pm, and is open to all members of the public regardless of background.
“This is an open invitation without segregation. We’re excited to share this moment with everyone and thank all those who have contributed to making it a success,” he added.
The event will be officiated by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, while President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the ceremony as the chief Guest.
Many Muslims in Kisoro have expressed their joy at having a District Khadi for the first time. They say the development marks a new era for the Muslim community in the area and reflects their growing unity and organization.
“This is a dream come true,” one Muslim faithful said. “We are ready to welcome the Mufti and our leaders for this special occasion.”
The inauguration of Sheikh Ali Mwesigye is expected to strengthen the administrative structure of the Kisoro Muslim District Council and enhance coordination of Islamic activities across the district.
