The fate of more than 30 candidates who sat for the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations at Kisoro Progressive Secondary School remains uncertain following reports that the school failed to clear registration fees with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Parents whose children studied at the school in Kisoro Municipality have raised concerns after failing to access the examination results.

The concerns were raised during a meeting held this Monday at Kisoro Municipal Council, where parents of the affected students gathered to discuss the fate of their children.

Voice of Muhabura understands that the school closed its doors at the end of last year and did not reopen for the current academic year.

Parents held a closed-door meeting with the Kisoro Municipal Inspector of Schools, Mr. Sabiiti Emmanuel Mugyema, during which the media was not allowed to attend. Mr. Mugyema had earlier pledged to brief journalists after the meeting but later left the venue in haste without addressing the press.

However, the media managed to speak to some parents who expressed anger towards the administrators of the now-defunct Kisoro Progressive Secondary School. They said they had cleared all school fees, including examination registration fees, expecting their children to receive their results.

They were therefore shocked when the results were not released and later learnt that the school had reportedly collapsed.

Nyiramahiro Flavia, the Nyakinama Sub-county LC5 Woman Councillor-elect, said several attempts to contact the former school administrators have been unsuccessful. She advised parents to be cautious when enrolling their children in newly established schools that lack a strong foundation.

Some of the affected learners told our reporter that more than 30 students who sat for the 2025 UCE examinations at the school have not received their results without any clear explanation. They say the situation has disrupted their education, as many of their colleagues have already reported to other schools for further studies.

Sources further allege that even the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results for Senior Six candidates at Kisoro Progressive Secondary School were not released by UNEB, reportedly due to the school’s failure to clear registration fees.

Voice of Muhabura was unable to establish the amount of money owed to UNEB.

In a short WhatsApp message, Kisoro Assistant Resident District Commissioner Vallence Hagumimana asked all parents affected by the stalemate to report to the RDC’s office for support.

None of the known administrators of the defunct school was reachable by the time of publishing this article.
