Two people died on spot while six others were rushed to Hospital in critical conditions following a fatal road accident at Kanaba on Kisoro – Kabale road Tuesday evening.
The accident involved motor vehicle registration number CGO 9777AB/07 Toyota Noah black in color, from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate says the accident occurred Tuesday evening at around 8:30pm, at Kagano village, Muhindura Parish in Kanaba Sub County, along Kisoro – Kabale road.
The deceased are Katimbo Kisinziro, a resident of Butembo in Democratic Republic of Congo and a female adult whose particulars are not yet established.
Particulars of other five injured victims had not been established time of publication.
It said that the motor vehicle was coming from Butembo in DR Congo carrying 7 passengers to Goma in DR Congo, via Uganda. Maate says that as it approached Gasheregenyi trading centre in Kagano village, Kanaba Sub County at a high speed, the unknown driver failed to negotiate the corner, overturning several times.
The vehicle fell in the valley 150 metres away from the road, killing two people on spot and leaving 5 others injured.
The scene was visited by ASP Kushaba Micheal, the OC Traffic Kisoro and his team of officers, victims were rushed to Kisoro hospital and Mutolere hospital, and the bodies taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary.
Maate says the primary cause of the accident was over speeding and reckless driving in corners.
