Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club has one foot into the quarterfinals of this year’s CAF Champions League after dispatching Al Merrikh on Tuesday at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
A spirited performance saw Simba SC win 3-0 to maintain their lead in group A thanks to goals from Luis Miquissone, Muhammed Husseini Mohamed and Mutshimba Kope Mugalu.
Victory took ‘The Reds of Msimbazi’ to 10 points, three ahead of defending Champions Al Ahly who also won 3-0 at AS Vita.
With two games left, AS Vita who are third on 4 points will hope Simba SC and Al Ahly lose the remaining two games to stand any chance of advancing.
COVID-19 Cases
The biggest talking point from the Simba – Al Merrikh clash was the fact that 8 players from the Sudanese outfit missed the game after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.
There has always been claims that many of clubs/national teams in Africa take advantage of the COVID-19 situation and forge results to put out players of the opposing teams.
