Kisoro: Bufumbira south MP Hon Sam Bitangaro was on Friday 28 August 2020 detained at kisoro central police station over allegations of disibeying lawful orders aimed at fighting Corona Virus.
According to Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Mate,The Kisoro DPC Christopher Ruhunde directed Nyarusiza police to swing into action and disperse the congregation upon receiving Intelligence information about disobedience of lawful orders by Hon.Sam Bitangaro the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bufumbira South who held a rally on Wednesday 26 August 2020, at Kabindi Playground in Nyarusiza Subcounty Kisoro District that attracted many people and failed to observe social distance. However due to bad terrain of the area, Police responded and found when the gathering had already been done with as the Hon.MP talked to people briefly and continued to other Villages of the same Subcounty.
The DPC then detailed more personels on ground who prevented further gatherings at Buhangura, Karambi, Mubande and Bushoka Trading centres all in Nyarusiza Subcounty.
Efforts to have Hon.Sam Bitangaro arrested went futile as he switched off his known phone numbers and his Political Assistant Mr. Senzoga’s phone numbers went un answered.
Mate said that Bitangaro was yesterday evening traced and eventually arrested and is now detained at Kisoro CPS pending Court.
