The territorial traffic police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male adult identified only as Moses, son of Kyomukama Wilex, a resident of Kameme Cell, Kibimbiri Parish in Kihihi Sub-county.

Moses’ body was discovered in water near Kiruruma Bridge, which borders Matanda and Nyamirama.

His motorcycle, registration number UFL 906L, was found at the scene with visible blood stains, suggesting he may have been involved in an accident.

The incident is believed to have occurred during the night of April 21 and 22, 2026, though the exact time remains unknown.

According to kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was a boda boda rider who had reportedly picked up two passengers traveling from Kihihi to Rukungiri before the incident.

However, the whereabouts of the passengers remain unclear.

Police visited and documented the scene before retrieving the body from the water. The deceased was taken to Kihihi Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the motorcycle has been impounded pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

Authorities also noted that Kiruruma Bridge had allegedly collapsed on April 17, 2026, following heavy rainfall the previous night, and has not yet been reconstructed—raising concerns about road safety in the area.
