A total of eight new solar lights have been erected within the Municipality at a cost of 67 Million Ugandan Shillings.
The lights glow bright in the dark illuminating the street starting from the corner adjacent to Coffee Pot Restaurant and extend towards Kisoro Hospital.
The latest development offers a sigh of relief to pedestrians and other road users who have fallen victim to highway robberies by petty thieves and in some instances machete wielding youth.
Police patrols will also significantly improve because of the improvised visibility in the night along that stretch of road.
Municipal Town Clerk Haruna Kamba says 67 Million shillings was utilized to hire a contractor, Lifeline Uganda Limited to install and erect the streetlights.
Kamba says the monies was generated from local revenue collected under property tax.
Several streets within the Municipality still remain with lights however credit is due to the authorities who have carried out sensitization and encouraged shop owners within the central business area to put on security lights at night.
LCIV Councilor representing Nyagashinge ward, Tumwizere Michael said that the streetlight will help to reduce darkness in some dark spots.
He said that the municipality has plans of fixing streetlights in other areas of town based on revenue collected.
He also thanked Kisoro municipality for rehabilitating some of feeder roads in the municipality.
