Sadiiki Adams, the Communications Officer of the Church of Uganda confirmed the development.

The Church of Uganda website reveals that, Rev. Canon Enos Kitto Kagodo has been elected as the 5th Bishop of Mukono Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 26th February 2023 at St. Philip’s and Andrew’s Cathedral, Mukono.

Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi Diocese has been elected as the 6th Bishop and will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 12th March 2023 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyansano, Rukungiri.

Muhabura Diocese still on the waiting list

Sadiiki says no official communication has been made regarding Muhabura diocese.

He further called on the Christians of Muhabura Diocese to remain patient because the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has confirmed that the selection of the new Bishop is a ‘working progress.’

According to a communication from the archbishop’s office, more elections especially of Namirembe and Luweero are due to take place.

Sadiiki says maybe Muhabura diocese will also be included.

He called for peace and calm in Muhabura Diocese adding that leadership is from God and that the Christians must keep observing respect for Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mugisha until official change is communicated.

Earlier this week, a section of Christians belonging to the diocese of Muhabura had their plans to protest the nomination process in the Mayors’ Gardens after security denied them access to the premises.

Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mugisha, who voluntarily sought early retirement remains at the helm of Anglican church business in Kisoro district, at least until the House of Bishops decides otherwise.
